BRIEF: SIUE women’s soccer brings home a win for Family Weekend

SIUE women soccer played Austin Peay Governors for the Family Weekend Game and won 5-0.


SIUE scored the first goal 30 minutes into the first half. Lily Schnieders, a sophomore forward, scored her sixth goal of the season.  She was assisted by Maria Haro, a junior forward. 


The Cougars also scored the second goal of the game in the first 15 minutes of the second half. It was scored by senior midfielder, Angel Ikeda and assisted by Schnieders. The goal was Ikeda’s second of the season.


With 25 minutes left in the game, SIUE scored their third goal of the game. MacKenzie Litzsinger, a senior forward, earned the goal making it her seventh goal of the season. She was assisted by Sidney Christopher, a sophomore midfielder.


Grace Cobb, a freshman midfielder, scored her first goal of the season and the fourth in the game with four minutes left in the game. She was assisted by Kayla Klipsch, a senior defender. 


Less than a minute later, the Cougars scored their fifth goal of the game. Kaitlyn Nichols, a freshman forward, was assisted by Cobbs for Nichols’ first goal of the season.


At the end of the first half, SIUE had ten shots on goal, while Austin Peay had two. In total SIUE had 28 shots, Austin Peay five. 


This game is the second time this season the Cougars have won by five. 


SIUE’s women’s soccer action continues in their last home game of the season against Southeast Missouri at 7 p.m tonight.
