Matt Brown effectively assumed his new role as the director of purchases at SIUE on July 1.

Brown replaced Shelly Albert, who retired after 33 years of serving as the director of purchases.

Brown has a wealth of experience within the state of Illinois. He was recently a manager with the Illinois Department of Central Management Services. In addition, he served in the office of the Illinois Secretary of State for over two years as state purchasing officer.

“Matt’s background is impressive not only in purchasing administration, but also as an author contributing to the [state] procurement code and its rules since their inception,” Rich Hampton, director of financial affairs at SIUE, stated in a press release.

The Purchasing Department has many functions, but one main goal: to secure the goods and services needed by the university in an efficient and cost-effective manner all while abiding by the rules of the Illinois State Procurement Code and SIU Board of Trustees.

They achieve this goal through five functions within the department: issuing purchase orders, administering contracts, expediting shipment of goods, receiving and distribution of purchased goods and pick up/delivery of surplus equipment and furniture.
