BREAKING: Postponed ceremony for spring graduates canceled

Spring graduates will have to wait even longer if they want to participate in an in-person graduation ceremony.

SIUE leaders announced Friday that the rescheduled graduation ceremonies planned for Aug. 7-8 have been canceled. The ceremonies originally planned for early May had been postponed to August due to the pandemic, but under the state’s “Restore Illinois” plan, all on-ground summer events at SIUE are now canceled through Aug. 8.

“While this is a difficult and disappointing decision, we feel it is in the best interest of students, faculty, staff and the community,” the statement read. “Ensuring your health and safety is our top priority.”

Spring graduates are invited to join in the fall graduation on Dec. 18-19 or next spring’s graduation on May 7-8, 2021, if they wish. Information about those ceremonies will be distributed in September for fall and February for spring.

Graduates are reminded to keep their addresses updated in Cougarnet. Diplomas will be delivered to the address on file 10-12 weeks after graduation. Spring graduates will also be receiving a keepsake in the mail, and the virtual commencement that went live last weekend will remain online at
