Off-campus shooting victim in critical but stable condition

Road closure at University Park.

An SIUE e-Lert stated the fourth and final suspect in a shooting of a male SIUE student that occurred Thursday night is now in custody.

The shooting took place near the intersection of I-270 and North Bluff Road. SIUE Police Chief Kevin Schmoll said the victim was in the passenger seat of a car with a female driver. The driver called 911 and drove to University Drive, where SIUE Police assisted in CPR. The victim was taken to a hospital and is in critical condition.

KMOV initially reported that SIUE’s campus police then found the victim outside Woodland Residence Hall, but Schmoll said this was not true.

An earlier e-Lert said there was a report of shots fired at Axis Edwardsville apartments off campus. A follow-up e-Lert was sent out stating that officers checked the area and found no evidence of foul play. According to the e-Lert, they don’t believe the report was related to the shooting on I-270.

As of early Friday morning, road closures begin at University Park towards the main entrance into SIUE. The Alestle will continue to update as more information arises.
