After children were forced to strip naked and stand in a closet as punishment, SIUE held investigative interviews with the children from the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Center Head Start Program classroom.

Upon the conclusion of the interviews, the police will review them and possibly administer charges to the two teachers involved.

The interviews were conducted at the Child Advocacy Center and were overseen by a child forensic interviewer April 3, 4 and 5.

According to SIUE Police Chief Kevin Schmoll the interviews will be reviewed to determine if other children within the classroom were affected.

“We’ll have to review the interviews [with the children] with detectives and the Child Advocacy Center, and that will take some time, possibly a few weeks,” Schmoll said. “We’ll consult with the St. Clair County State’s Attorney for possible charges.”

SIUE Marketing will announce a press release with more information once police have more on the incident.

Jackie Joyner-Kersee Head Start employees declined to comment at this time.

The Alestle will update this story as more information becomes available.
