BRIEF: Men’s soccer welcomes Cale Wassermann as new head coach

Men's soccer announced Cale Wassermann as the program's new head coach Thursday.

SIUE Athletics named Cale Wassermann head men’s soccer coach last Thursday. He will replace former Head Coach Mario Sanchez, who departed from the team at the end of November.

According to SIUE Athletics, Wassermann most recently served as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Michigan State University from 2015 to 2018. While Wassermann held this position, the Spartans advanced to the semifinals of the 2018 NCAA College Cup.

“[SIUE] truly checked all of the boxes professionally and for my family. The chance for long-term success on the field is high, and the people at SIUE and within the community present an attractive lifestyle and a great place to settle down with my family,” Wassermann told SIUE Athletics.

Wassermann will begin working with Athletics and the men’s soccer team this semester. The Alestle will continue to update this story as more information is available.
