The SIU Board of Trustees will return to the Morris University Center at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 12 in the second floor Conference Center. The board’s first meeting of the academic year will include talk of the FY20 budget as well as increases to salary pools.

According to the board agenda, operating budgets for SIUE, SIUC, the School of Dental Medicine and SIU system offices are up for approval, and the proposed budgets include both appropriated and non-appropriated funds.

As The Alestle previously reported, FY20 will see a 5 percent increase in state appropriations for general operations. However, the revenue from tuition will decrease by 6.65 percent FY19, while the total operating budget will increase slightly (0.66 percent).

If approved, the salary increase plan for FY20 will authorize Interim President Kevin Dorsey to grant a 2.75 percent salary increase pool to SIUE and a 2 percent increase pool to the School of Medicine. Dorsey would also be able to issue guidelines and eligibility requirements for salary increases to staff not represented by a bargaining agent and School of Medicine non-physician faculty.

After Thursday’s meeting, the atrium in the Engineering Building might be renamed the “Enterprise Holdings Founding Atrium” in exchange for gifts and pledges from the foundation, which would total $1.5 million.

The board may also approve the renovation and expansion of the SIUE’s  greenhouse. The project would be funded primarily through the Illinois Capital Development Board, with additional funds coming from donations and SIUE reserves.

Many approvals of appointments and salaries are on the board’s agenda, including those for select positions in the School of Dental Medicine, Tim Hall as SIUE’s Director of Athletics and the re-appointment of Dorsey’s special assistant.

The board will also discuss their meeting schedule for 2020. The Alestle will provide further coverage after the meeting.
