In SIUE’s most recent campus update, university leadership announced University Advancement has launched an online fundraising effort for a Student Emergency Fund.

According to the announcement, this fund is designed to help SIUE students experiencing temporary financial hardship due to a sudden emergency, such as unemployment or illness related to COVID-19. Donations for the fund are being collected through a fundraising page run by the SIUE Foundation.

The fundraising page is asking for donations to help support students during this period of uncertainty that has accompanied the coronavirus outbreak. As of Sunday night, $3,700 have been raised so far.

The page description reads, “Please consider helping our students who may not have financial access to the necessary resources to continue their classes online; support an international student who will not be able to travel back to their home country; or bridge the gap for students whose employment hours may have been reduced or eliminated.”

More information about how students can apply for funds is forthcoming, according to the campus update.

Members of the SIUE community can find the most recent coronavirus-related updates on SIUE’s coronavirus website. The Alestle will also continue to provide updates as more information arises.
