Breaking News

On Wednesday, Sept. 26, University Housing reported a bias incident in the Evergreen Parking Lot, according to an email sent to students.

The email said the incident involved vulgar and derogatory words written on a student’s vehicle. An Alestle Editor confirmed the car in question was seen with racist and homophobic slurs on it at around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday night in the Evergreen Hall Parking Lot.

The SIUE Police Department have been notified and are currently investigating the report. Members of the Bias Incident Report Team are also talking to the students that reported the incident and the student whose car was involved.

“Personal attacks based on race, gender, ethnicity, religion or sexual orientation should never occur, not even if intended as a joke,” the email stated.

Administration went on to encourage those who have any information to confidentially report to residence assistants, faculty, SIUE PD, or administrators.

Students can contact SIUE PD at 618-650-3324 or contact The Alestle at 618-650-3530. The Alestle will continue to update as information becomes available.
