Less than a month after the Bias Incidence Response Team sent out an email to students denouncing an unauthorized flyer spreading misinformation surrounding transgender people, the team took to the student bouncers list yet again to describe a new incident: this time one of racist origins.

According to the email, which was sent out on Tuesday, a female African-American student was walking by Alumni Hall Monday afternoon when a white male hopped out of a vehicle and yelled a racial slur. The suspect then got back in the vehicle and fled toward North University Drive.

“Hurtful words, comments and actions based on race, gender, ethnicity, religion or sexual orientation should never occur,” the email said.

The email asks those who have information about this incident or who have witnessed other biased behaviors contact SIUE Police at 618-650-3324 or police@siue.edu. Incidents may also be reported confidentially to residence assistants, administrators, faculty or the SIUE Police, according to the email.
