On Thursday, Feb. 6, SIUE Chancellor Randy Pembrook and other members of administration held a Q&A that covered upcoming campus events and additions to food offered at the university.
Pembrook prefaced the Q&A by telling students, faculty, and staff Daniel Mahony, who will become SIU-system president next month, will be on campus on March 4 and 5 to meet with constituency heads and student leaders.
Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Jeffrey Waple discussed new food options coming to campus. Not only did Waple provide details of Lovejoy’s upcoming Starbucks, he also said Chick-fil-A will close for renovation on April 20 until August, Skywalk Café is reopening in the fall, and a renovation of Auntie Anne’s to include a Cinnabon is happening in the Summer of 2021.
Faculty research fellow Jacob Wilson noted that 63 percent of the student body did not vote last election, and asked Pembrook if the university will dedicate resources to helping students stay informed and vote.
Pembrook expressed interest in holding events that promote political discussion, and he also said he valued students’ option to vote on campus.
“I would really love to see us … have those kinds of conversations,” Pembrook said.
Students can check out more information on upcoming events at the SIUE Campus Calendar of Events.
