A single vehicle motorcycle accident occurred on campus at 10 p.m. Monday, resulting in the motorist being airlifted to St. Louis University Hospital.

According to SIUE Police Lt. Kevin Schmoll, the motorist's level of injury and his current health condition were unknown as of Tuesday afternoon.

The accident occurred at 10 p.m. 100 feet west of South University Drive, Schmoll said.

According to the Director of Public Affairs Greg Conroy, the motorist was 43-year-old Edward Young.

Conroy said the motorist engaged the breaks, lost control and landed in a ditch. Emergency medical technicians arrived shortly after the accident, and the victim was airlifted to SLUH.

Schmoll said no other vehicle or any type of wildlife was involved in the incident. Schmoll also said the motorist had no current affiliation with SIUE, and it is unknown if the motorist ever attended the university.
