A new CD. An upcoming concert. Registering students for classes. A busy life is nothing new to SIUE academic advisor Danita Mumphard.
Mumphard will be releasing her new gospel CD entitled "Watch God Work" as well as performing at the Missouri History Museum's Lee Auditorium.
The concert, called "An Evening of Gospel and Jazz," is celebrating the release of her new CD. Mumphard will perform gospel as well as jazz music.
"Both gospel and jazz move people in indescribable ways," Mumphard said in a press release. "All my songs speak of love - God's love for us and our love for our fellow man."
SIUE academic advisor Dawn Reed is a close friend as well as a fan of Mumphard. Reed said her favorite song of Mumphard's is "I Can Do All Things."
"I think (her music) is absolutely wonderful," Reed said. "Danita is one of my closest friends. I have her two other CDs and was at her CD release party for her second CD. It's very soothing, and it's very inspiring."
Mumphard has done many performances in the area including the Whitaker Jazz Festival, the Arts Festival and St. Louis Divas Show. Mumphard also performs in the Goshen Showcase.
"God has blessed me with a voice to reach others for Christ Jesus," Mumphard said.
Reed said she thought Mumphard will be famous one day.
"I think she's going places," Reed said. "It just worries me that one day she isn't going to be my colleague and co-worker. She's going to be famous. That would be a good thing for her. This is just me being selfish. We are very, very proud."
Mumphard's new CD features 15 jazz gospel songs such as "Keeps on Blessing Me" and "Worthy is The Lamb."
"I always say that God is in the blessing business," Mumphard said. "I'm excited to see God work and give blessings to His children."
Mumphard also has a jazz CD titled "With Love" which boasts both live and studio performances of jazz music.
Mumphard is an SIUE alumna and has worked in the Special Services office, as well as helping to start FAME, a mentoring support group for African American females.
"One of my greatest passions is working with students and assisting them in their journeys toward graduation," Mumphard said in a press release.
Also appearing with Mumphard in concert are saxophonist Rod Tate, pianist Gwendolyn Thompson and special guests Trio Tres Bien.
The concert will be at 7 p.m. Saturday. Tickets can be purchased for $20 and are available at metrotix.com.
Mumphard said she hopes everyone at SIUE will come and hear her sing for her Lord.
"I just want my colleagues to come and enjoy themselves."
