An SIUE student who was the subject of a safety bulletin was located off campus at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
SIUE police had released a safety alert Thursday morning for all students to be on alert for senior John L. Hubbert, who could be potentially armed, according to SIUE police chief Regina Hays.
A later safety release clarified that Hubbert was considered a danger to himself and not to the campus.
"He was a potential threat to himself over an incident at his residence," Hays said.
Hays said the incident occured at Hubbert's Alton residence earlier Thursday morning, and the individuals he lived with contacted the police after he left.

I applaud the University and the Alestle for their quick e-mail transmissions when the potential threat was made public. I say potential because my student on campus called frantic with the info her roommate gave her. (Continued…)
Nursing school shut down

Word on the street is that the School of Nursing chose to suspend classes for the day. The student told me the reason was because of the threat. If the nursing school did indeed shut down due to the threat, why did other schools not follow suit?
What's a day missed in an effort to figure out the situation?
And I didn't receive my email warning until late in the afternoon. (Continued…)

This is a terrible system. It's Monday, and I just now read my e-mail. I don't check my e-mail daily because let's face it students are busy! I am a non-traditional full-time student with a spouse and children. (Continued…)
