On Friday, senior Pat Brazill sat as a member of SIUE's Student Government at their student senate meeting. Shortly after that, Brazill sat with another number of his peers, this time, on a different bench.

Brazill took off the tie and laced up the cleats as the men's soccer team faced Kentucky Wesleyan on Friday night at Ralph Korte Stadium. Pulling double duty for Brazill is something that he has came to be accustomed to.

"Well, the most relatable thing about playing soccer and working on the Student Government is that both endeavors require a unified team effort," Brazill said. "In both, we have set our goals and objectives for the year and we strive to work our hardest to accomplish those goals."

As Student Senator Pat Brazill, which is his official title in Student Government, he is required to participate in three hours per week in the Kimmel Leadership Center. While in the office, he answers students' calls regarding concerns.

Brazill also is required to be involved with two committees. The two committees Brazill participates in are the Intercollegiate Athletics Committee and the Student Legal Services Advisory Committee. But, to Brazill, the committee work is not the most vital part of his job.

"I think, however, the most important task is just getting out with the students and finding out how they feel about what is going on around campus," Brazill said. "Because, we really work for them."

On field, Brazill is in his second year of play with SIUE. Before transferring from St. Louis Community College at Meramec, Brazill also played for East Carolina. While attending Christian Brothers College High School, Brazill played with the likes of other future Cougars such as sophomores Kevin Bielicki, Tim Lindsay and Randy Roy.

After playing in all 22 games in 2006 for the Cougars, and starting in 11, Brazill earned his spot on the roster. After one assist with six shots on goal, Brazill's quick to initiate style of play is something that Head Coach Ed Huneke is always looking for.
