Many students would probably say that there is nothing to do on campus. I've certainly heard quite a few students complaining about this, and I think they have an extremely valid point. Yeah, right.

For instance, Campus Activities Board provides an excruciatingly narrow venue of activities for students. Sure, they provide comedians, musicians, poets, speakers, movies, demonstrations, hypnotists and other forms of free entertainment, but what about Madonna? Surely it's not asking that much to have her perform "Material Girl" in the Goshen Lounge.

And don't even get me started on the campus theater. Do they honestly expect me to haul my Cougar Card all the way to the box office in Dunham Hall to get a free ticket? I haven't even heard of any of this year's plays: "A Midsummer Night's Dream," "Goldilocks and the Three Bears" and "The Ant and the Grasshopper," among others.

Arts and Issues isn't much better. Who really wants to listen to General McCaffrey blather on about the "War on Terrorism" on Oct. 27 anyway? He was the most highly-decorated four-star general when he retired. Big deal.

Plus, the fitness center is almost archaic. The Vadalabene Center may have a pool, basketball courts, an indoor track, cardio equipment and weightlifting machines, but they are decidedly lacking in a gravity-free training area. Now how am I supposed to train for the space program?

All the student organizations are pretty pathetic, too. Who wants to join a group to meet people with the same interests and make new friends? Same thing goes for Greek Life and all the values they stand for. Leadership, scholarship, friendship, brotherhood, civic engagement, fun-all of that is so highly overrated.

I haven't even seen SIUE throw one kegger. No wonder students complain all the time about the lack of stuff to do on campus.

I'm sorry but your argument just plain annoying. There are plenty of activities but the advertising on this campus is a joke. THere are 101 things to do but you may get a days notice if your lucky for most of them. (Continued…)
