The sound of drizzling rain will fill the Vadalabene Gymnasium this week, but outside the building it was clear and sunny. SIUE basketball players, coaches and, of course, a group of eager children participated in this weeks basketball camp.
Children from grades one through eight entered the gym to work on their basketball skills, including improving their dribbling skills, shooting skills, passing ability and their defense. The attendees were helped and instructed with these activities by current SIUE players and coaches.
The children were instructed through drills that focused on all the skills including intense dribbling exercises, which also included a few drills that were more light-hearted and fun.
"It's tough, but it's been a lot of fun," one camp attendee said. "I've learned a lot from the camp."
The children will continue to practice and run through drills throughout the week. This is the first camp that is being run by new SIUE men's basketball coach Lennox Forrester. Helping Forrester with the camp were players from the current Cougar roster.
The camp consisted of boys and girls that learned a lot about the game through teamwork and through motivation. Some other skills the attendees learned were improving their hand-eye coordination and quickness of feet and with ball skills.
The camp will go through Friday and the Cougars will continue to practice readying for their season opener at SIUE on Nov. 15.
In addition to running this week's basketball camp, Forrester has also added a new addition to his roster for the 2007-08 season.
Recently signing with the Cougars is T.J. Gray, a former player for the University of Illinois-Chicago. Gray will bring an improvement to the Cougars outside game as he tied the University of Illinois-Chicago record with 90 3-pointers last season.
Gray, along with the rest of the men's basketball team, will hope to finish strong in their final year of NCAA Division-II competition.
Other camps are working with children throughout the summer. Ranging from soccer to volleyball, all of these sporting camps offer learning and interaction for children.

just an outline of my view on anything:
1. Discuss the desire you have or should have.
2. Discuss your faith (belief/confidence).
3. Discuss persistence. (Continued…)
