What is the duty of a loyal fan? Is it to cheer on favorite athletes? It is to support the team as a whole? Do you just care about the stats? Is it religiously checking your online fantasy baseball team hoping that your first place team remains at the top? Or is it something deeper?

When a fan cheers on his favorite athlete, they cheer him on because he made a game winning shot, hit the walk-off homerun, made a spectacular save or broke a league record. But what happens when that athlete walks off of the field and makes a spectacular play outside of his sport? I cheer for Manny Legace.

Recently, Legace, goaltender for the St. Louis Blues, along with his wife, became an honorary chair for the 9th Annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. The St. Louis race has raised more the $10 million for local education, screening, treatment and breast cancer support programs. I cheer for Manny Legace.

Being a Major League Baseball coach is not an easy task. Balancing the team's workouts, practices, travel time, and actually bettering your team is all tough work in itself. But coaching is more then just winning and losing games; it is leading by example. Setting an example that others can follow and look up to. I cheer for Tony LaRussa.

LaRussa and his wife, Elaine, started the Animal Rescue Foundation in 1991. The ARF saves dogs and cats that have run out of time at public shelters and brings people and animals together to enrich each other lives. I cheer for Tony LaRussa.

When your favorite team does well during the season, you support them all the way through. When your team is not doing well, you seem to keep quiet. I believe in supporting my team through the season through the good times and the bad times. I cheer for my team when the season isn't even in season. I cheer for the St. Louis Cardinals.

Cardinals closer Jason Isringhausen taped a PSA for the Illinois Department of Transportation about seatbelt use. Shortstop David Eckstein, outfielder So Taguchi, catcher Gary Bennett, team trainer Barry Weinberg and LaRussa all sold cookies at Mike Shannon's to raise money for Operation Food Search. Members of the team visited the Herbert Hoover Boys and Girls Club. I cheer for the Cardinals.

I cheer for us. Or at least I would like to. I would like to cheer for the father who goes outside and plays catch with their son. I want to cheer for the mother who goes and supports her daughter at her soccer games each week, regardless of how tough work was. I want to cheer on the parents that raise their children to be as focused, caring, and intelligent as the people mentioned above, along with many other athletes and coaches supporting the causes they believe in.

I would like to cheer for the sporting events that change our lives like a World Championship, but I believe that it's the different life-changing events that we should really cheer for. I support the chance to change.
